My friends, are you ready to see a truly hideous bathroom? I know my online-buddy Alyssa has been dying to see this room, but I've been a little embarrassed to post these images. I finally decided to share because I think the blog world could use a bit more reality. I absolutely despise our second floor bathroom- I literally cringe every time I step foot in here- but we simply don't have the money to renovate this space yet. We've considered gutting it, but that would make yet another room that's torn apart (um, I'm talking about you, mudroom and living room). Let's take a look, shall we?
The top image is the view from the hallway. The bathroom itself is broken up into two spaces- the bathroom proper and an unusually-sized closet within a closet, which I've talked about before. The plan is to make the bathroom one big room by removing the fake shower wall and the second doorway. The vintage medical cabinet holds towels and toiletries. The walls and ceiling are covered in this crappy faux-marble shower board (pretty awful stuff). I have no idea why they lowered the ceiling in the shower, but it seriously creeps me out. BLECH!!!

PRH is very thoughtful. On the morning of our Summer party, I sent him out to buy a new toilet seat. Thinking that I liked the old wooden seat, he came home with the exact same style. See what I mean? Thoughtful. Unfortunately, I didn't like the old janky wooden toilet seat, nor do I like the new wooden toilet seat. I probably should've specified. Had I not been such a freak about getting ready for our party, I would've run back out and grabbed a different one. Too late.
The pedestal sink is actually a super cheap new sink. We replaced it because the previous sink leaked and was too close to the toilet. We didn't realize until after it was installed that the basin and pedestal (which were sold packaged together) were slightly different colors. Again, lesson learned.
Bam! Gorgeous light fixture? No. That plastic medicine cabinet also leaves something to be desired.
Kicky's little toilet seat lives next to the radiator behind the door. I don't blame the radiator for melting the hideous floor beneath it. I'd melt it too, if I could.
The floors are two layers of junky old tile over junky wood. This is what all of the upstairs wood floors looked like, but we painted the rest. I would just chip up that tile, but I'm not sure what it's made out of. The blue arrow is pointing to a ladybug that I didn't see until I put these photos on my computer. The ladybug and I agree that the floors would look much better if they were something like the black herringbone tile that I posted yesterday.
See what I mean? The wall and ceiling are covered in this fine material. It's glued to the walls and ceiling and I'm honestly a bit nervous to take it down.
The previous owners must have been towel rack fanatics because there are towel racks and holes for towel racks everywhere! The doors need some help.
This is the view from the bathroom looking into the hallway and into EZ E's tiny bedroom.
As I mentioned yesterday, I'm planning to replace the hall light with this one from Schoolhouse Electric.
The glass doorknobs are pretty much the only thing I like about this room. They just need to be cleaned and repaired. We obviously have a long way to go with this bathroom renovation. I don't want a fancy tub or double showers- I just want a minimal, clean-looking bathroom. I've pinned a ton of inspiration images here and hope to get started on this project sooner than later.
